Co-op Mart on Thursday April 27, 2023

On Thursday April 27th, 2023, the Co-operatives Department in conjunction with the Corporate Affairs and Intellectual Property Office (CAIPO) of the Ministry of Energy and Business, will be hosting an exciting co-operatives market on the grounds of the Baobab Tower, Warrens, St. Michael from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The market is being held to mark World Intellectual Property (IP) Day, which is traditionally observed on April 26th every year. This year the theme for World IP Day is “Women and Intellectual Property – Accelerating Innovation and Creativity”. In keeping with the theme, the co-operatives market on April 27th, 2023 will place a special emphasis on the entrepreneurial capabilities of female entrepreneurs in co-operatives and small businesses.

CAIPO officers will be on hand to conduct consultations and answer questions related to Intellectual Property. There will also be a chance to win tokens and prizes through participation in an IP challenge.

Among others, innovative goods and services will be displayed by Women Entrepreneurs, Ujamaa, Pinnacle and Pig Farmers Co-operatives.

Items on sale will include, custom made bags, plants, African clothing, locally made liqueurs, art and craft items, locally made soaps, various types of jewelry, locally made confectionery, assorted women accessories and more.

Complimentary Health checks will be provided by the Diabetes and Hypertension Association of Barbados and Ms. Sylvia Yearwood, a representative of Pan-American International Insurance Corporation will be on hand to provide advice to the public in various areas of insurance including Life and Personal Accident. The Barbados Medicinal Cannabis Unit of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and PriceSmart Company will be on hand to educate and provide necessary information to the public.

Delicious complimentary vegetarian food samples provided by Pinnacle Cooperative as well as tasty pork samples compliments of the Pig Farmers Co-operative and prepared by Dr. Phil’s Kitchen will be offered to the public. Fish cakes and chicken wings will also be on sale and caterer Way by Design will add their special touch to the event with pastries, burgers and other tasty delights.

Co-op Mart Resident DJ Glen will be on site to maintain a lively ambience and steel pan virtuoso Elan Marie Jordan of ELANJAY will add a special touch to the event!!!
