The Ministry of Energy, Small Business and Entrepreneurship through the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) is charged with the responsibility of collecting and monitoring retail prices of food and non-food items in the basket of basic consumer items. The Department conducts monthly price surveys, administered by its Trading Standards Inspectors across the retail sector.

The retail price data is collected from ten (10) supermarkets which includes Eddies, Carlton, Jordans, Popular, Massy and Trimart, for approximately three hundred consumer items which make up the basic basket of goods.
