The Barbados National Standards Institution during the next five years will be seeking to significantly enhance Barbados’s Quality Infrastructure through a number of activities, which will include:
- Developing and Implementing a National Quality Policy for Barbados.
- Assisting the National Trade and Business Facilitation Committee in developing standards and regulations that would improve Barbados’ global and competitiveness rankings in the area of trade and business facilitation.
- Undergoing the reconstruction and retrofitting of key areas of the BNSI Laboratory towards improving the facilities and environmental condition of functional areas.
- Laboratories becoming accredited in the area of ‘Compression Testing (Pressure) in the Soils and Materials Laboratory.
The move towards the development and implementation of standards and an efficient National Quality Infrastructure augers well to increase private sector participation in adhering to conformity assessment which will assist the department in administering its regulatory programmes.
