Online platforms for quicker and easier business

Article taken from the Sunday Sun – 25th September 2022

Government will be providing a single online platform where businesses will be able to access services and information in a timely and cost-efficient manner.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Small Business Sandra Husbands told the closing event for Small Business Week on Friday that businesses would have access to 28 Government units “even in the middle of the night”.

In the feature address at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Husbands told small business leaders the aim was to remove the delays and cost of standing in lines and other forms of delay.

“You do not want to have to stand in line,” she noted, adding that time was money.

Husbands advised the business owners to work as a team at the Small Business Association and noted the importance of enhanced skills. She indicated that Barbados was also adopting the team approach to trade with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

Husbands said that, unlike 40 years ago, “You have to constantly change”.

A former long-standing head of the SBA, Husbands lauded its chief executive Officer, Dr Lynette Holder, and her staff for organising the just concluded 19th annual business week.

She underscored the importance of innovation and competitiveness on an evening when the SBA announced eight awards to business owners.

Managing director of Resilia Accounting Services Inc., Dawn Williams, led the way, winning the prestigious Chairman’s Award, while her firm earned the

Minister’s Award, the Small Business Award Of The Year (2022) and the Professional Services Award. Resilia Accounting Services Inc. has been in business since 2016.

Agri-business company O’s Inc., which has been utilising local produce and has a focus on expanding exports, won the Minister’s Award For Innovation and the Agri-Business Award.

The Barbados Pig Farmers Co-operative received the Group Membership Award, which was presented to manager Jasmin King. Elaine’s Caribbean Crotchet received the Manufacturing Award. The General Services Award went to 13 Degrees North Productions.
